Frequently Asked Questions
Is massage safe during pregnancy?
Yes, for most pregnancies pregnancy massage is not only safe but deeply beneficial. Every session begins with a conversation about your health and your pregnancy, and as a doula I understand when extra care is needed and when to suggest checking in with your midwife or doctor first. Your safety and your baby's always come before anything else.
Can massage help with back pain, hip pain or sciatica?
These are the three most common reasons women book with me. As your baby grows, your posture shifts and your lower back, hips and glutes carry the change. Slow, targeted work in these areas can bring real relief, and side-lying positioning means we can reach them properly without any strain on you.
What about swelling in my legs and feet?
Gentle massage supports circulation and lymphatic flow, which can ease that heavy, puffy feeling in your legs, ankles and feet. If swelling ever comes on suddenly or feels severe, I'll encourage you to see your care provider first, as that's something worth checking.
Will massage bring on labour?
This one comes up a lot, and the honest answer is no: massage doesn't start labour before your body and baby are ready. What it does beautifully is calm your nervous system and support the hormones that help labour unfold when the time comes. In your final weeks we can also focus on softening and preparing the body for birth.
What do I wear? Will I be covered?
Whatever feels comfortable. You'll undress to your level of comfort in private, and you're professionally draped with towels the whole time, with only the area being massaged uncovered. Warmth, dignity and comfort are part of the care.
What if I get emotional during the session?
Then you're in exactly the right place. Pregnancy stirs up so much, and it's common for feelings to rise when the body finally softens. There's no need to hold anything in or apologise. This is your space, and you are held, tears and all.
